Behind the Scenes at DBK: Teamwork, Safety, and the People Behind Every Renovation

When homeowners see a completed kitchen or bathroom renovation, they often focus on the finished result — the cabinetry, the layout, the lighting, and the transformation itself. What is less visible is the teamwork, planning, and coordination that happen behind the scenes to bring those spaces to life.

At DBK, every renovation project depends on experienced team members working together from the showroom to the final installation. Recently, we sat down with Michel Lavigne and Chris Campbell to talk about their roles, what they enjoy most about renovation work, and why workplace safety remains such an important part of every project.

Meet the Team Behind the Work

Michel Lavigne, Senior Cabinet Installer, has been with DBK for nearly 20 years and brings extensive hands-on experience to every renovation project.
Chris Campbell, Showroom Manager, works closely with homeowners and the installation team to help ensure projects move smoothly from planning through final installation.

Their roles may be different, but both share the same commitment to quality workmanship, teamwork, and thoughtful renovation planning.

What Makes Renovation Work Rewarding?

For both Michel and Chris, one of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing the final transformation.

Michel explained that every project brings something different and that teamwork plays a major role in the process.

“One of the best parts of the job is seeing the finished product. People see the completed kitchen or bathroom, but they don’t always see all the work that happened behind the scenes to make it happen.” — Michel Lavigne

He also emphasized the value of working closely with the team and sharing knowledge throughout each project.

Chris shared a similar perspective, noting how satisfying it is to see outdated spaces become functional environments homeowners can truly enjoy.

“It’s rewarding knowing the entire team played a role in making that happen.” — Chris Campbell

For both team members, renovation work is not only about construction — it is about helping create spaces that improve how homeowners live every day.

Why Safety Matters During Renovations

Kitchen and bathroom renovations involve much more than design and installation. Construction environments include tools, electrical systems, heavy materials, ladders, and unfinished spaces that require constant awareness.

Michel explained that renovation sites always involve risks, especially when teams are working around electrical systems, ceilings, or large materials.

“Nobody wants to get hurt. There are always risks on a worksite, so we need to stay vigilant and pay attention to what we’re doing every day.” — Michel Lavigne

Chris also emphasized the importance of proper tool handling and ongoing safety awareness.

“We use a lot of power tools and cutting equipment, and any of those tools can cause serious injuries if they’re not used properly.” — Chris Campbell

From power tools to heavy lifting, renovation work requires careful planning and strong communication across the entire team.

Creating a Strong Safety Culture

At DBK, safety is treated as a shared responsibility across the company.

Chris explained that the Joint Health and Safety Committee plays an important role in helping workers identify potential risks before accidents happen. Teams regularly inspect tools, vehicles, and equipment to ensure everything remains in safe working condition.

Michel added that watching out for one another on-site is equally important.

“Sometimes someone just needs a reminder to slow down and do the job safely instead of rushing.” — Michel Lavigne

Chris shared a recent example from a project where a crew member quickly stepped in to stabilize a ladder while another tradesperson was working.

“It only takes one small mistake for someone to get seriously hurt. That’s why communication and awareness on site are so important.” — Chris Campbell

These small actions help create a safer and more supportive work environment for everyone involved.

Experience and Training Make the Difference

Renovation work requires more than the right tools and materials. Proper training and hands-on experience are essential for both quality workmanship and workplace safety.

Chris emphasized the importance of making sure workers receive the proper training before using specialized equipment.

“You don’t just hand somebody a tool and assume they know how to use it safely.” — Chris Campbell

This focus on training, teamwork, and accountability helps maintain consistent standards across every renovation project.

More Than a Finished Space

Behind every kitchen and bathroom renovation is a team working together to solve problems, manage details, and deliver quality craftsmanship safely and efficiently.

For homeowners in Ottawa, Orléans, and surrounding areas, successful renovations depend not only on design and materials, but also on the people behind the process.

At DBK, that teamwork remains at the center of every project.
